Support Brain Health with Rosemary Tea
✨ 1% Better Mondays: A simple habit may enhance energy and improve mood
Energy and persistence conquer all things.
— Benjamin Franklin
Happy Monday morning!
Feeling a July energy slump?
Try this simple brain habit of drinking rosemary tea every day for a week.
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) is commonly used as an infusion to treat anxiety and depression. Traditional healers used rosemary to enhance energy and promote well-being.
A 2021 study found that BDNF, or brain-derived neurotrophic factor, levels increased by nearly 100% after 10 days of consuming rosemary tea, supporting the potential cognitive and mood benefits of rosemary tea.
BDNF is a neuropeptide that helps our brain’s plasticity and repair. Essentially, better BDNF leads to better brain function and memory.
In the study, twenty-two healthy volunteers, aged 20–50 years, consumed rosemary tea (5 grams of dried rosemary in 100 mL of boiled water) once daily for 10 days. After 10 days, participants’ BDNF levels were nearly doubled.
The study concluded that rosemary tea may have promising anxiolytic and antidepressant effects, potentially improving brain function and memory through increased BDNF. However, the authors note that larger and longer-term studies are needed to confirm these findings.
Your tip for the week: 🌱 Try this simple addition of rosemary tea to your daily habits to support your brain health. Using medicinal herbs as teas and in culinary preparations is a gentle and consistent way to reap their benefits without causing harm.
Steep 1-2 teaspoons of dried rosemary leaves in 6 oz of boiled water for 5-10 minutes, depending on how strong you want the flavor. Strain to remove the leaves. Add honey or lemon for flavor.
How simple is this?
I love rosemary. It’s a culinary herb that grows easily. I have some in my garden herb pots. Drinking rosemary tea daily is a simple yet effective habit. Weaving medicinal herbs into daily life through simple habits and routines is a time honored way to reap their benefits.

I’ve read that rosemary contains antioxidants, and also that rinsing with rosemary tea promotes hair growth.
