What I'm Reading
Atomic Habits
by James Clear
Change can take years—before it happens all at once.
— James Clear, Atomic Habits
James Clear’s Atomic Habits promotes the idea that tiny 1% improvements compound into fundamental transformation. It’s a practical guide to building good habits and breaking bad ones through small changes.
Clear writes that significant changes may seem to emerge from a single dramatic event. But, they are the culmination of small, incremental shifts occurring constantly beneath the surface—just as spring's burst of blooms follows winter's long, quiet preparation.
Although we may have goals, and that’s good, the process or framework we use helps us achieve those critical goals. Clear emphasizes the importance of systems over goals.
He introduces the four laws of behavior change—make it obvious, attractive, easy, and satisfying—to help readers design effective habits. The book also explores the deep connection between identity and habits, suggesting that actual change comes from what we do and who we believe we are.
Atomic Habits was published in 2018. I don’t know why it took me so long to read it, but I highly recommend it if you enjoy practical self-improvement books.
