Herbal Feature Series: Milky Oats
Each month, I highlight an herb of interest for its nervous‑system‑support and stress-relieving properties. Features in this series include gentle daily allies like chamomile, linden, and skullcap; restful, sleep‑supportive herbs such as lemon balm, passionflower, valerian, hops, and California poppy; and nourishing nervines like milky oats, catnip, lavender, and motherwort.
Alongside this nervine series, I’ll also explore key adaptogens that support the body’s long‑term resilience to stress, such as ashwagandha, rhodiola, and Holy basil.

Tension and anxiety are normal responses to difficult situations and tend to resolve on their own as the situation resolves. But stress and anxiety can become chronic, especially if you’re run down by nutritional deficiencies, long-term stress, excess alcohol, or lack of exercise.
Medicinal herbs have a long history of use and are an excellent way to naturally manage stress. But there are different kinds of stress, and some herbs work better than others depending on the cause.
